Hilton, Ida Bell

January 12, 1915 – September 17, 2006

Passed away peacefully on September 17, 2006. Ida was born on January 12, 1915 in Winnipeg, Manitoba. Predeceased by her husband Al in 1995 and son-in-law Stan Dean in 2006. Al, Ida and family moved to the Comox Valley in 1945 with their children, Roland and Doreen. They managed the “Copps” Shoe Store on 5th Street, then opened their own store “Hilton’s Shoes” on 5th Street. They later purchased “Good’s Groceteria” Food and Restaurant out by the airbase until their retirement. Ida was active in several lodges and organizations – the Pythian Sister Lodge in Comox (her mother Lillian Hunter was also a member) and the Canadian Daughters of Courtenay for several years.

She was also very active with the local chapter of F.O.S. (Friends of Schizophrenia) and her work with F.O.S. at the local and provincial levels was honoured by receiving the Governor General’s Caring Canadian Award in Victoria on May 10, 2000. Ida helped to organize hot meals and a clubhouse for recipients in the Valley as well as walks for funding and penny collections, all for the cause. Ida will be loved always and sorrowfully missed by her family and many friends.

Family members are: her son Rolly (Lynn) Hilton of Campbell River, daughter Doreen Dean of Surrey, son Larry Hilton of Victoria, grandchildren and families: Britt (Loranne) Hilton, Lindsey and Meghan of Victoria, Nadine (Scott) Freer, Claire, Ellen, Joel, Drew of Calgary, Alberta, Bob (Karen) Dean, Breanna and Bradley of Coquitlam, Stan (Allison) Dean, Cameron, Kali of Coquitlam, Randy Dean of Coquitlam, Michelle (Ken) Duke of New Westminster, sisters: Joyce (Bob) Hunt of Courtenay and Donna Miller of Nanaimo, brother-in-law Dick (Molly) Hilton of Courtenay, sisters-in-law Dorothy Rist of Surrey and Margaret Hunter of Courtenay.?

Ida was a resident of the Casa Loma Senior Residence for several years and was very happy there. She had many new friends there and was lovingly looked after by all the staff. The family thanks you, everyone for this. In January 2006 Ida had to be taken to Comox Hospital where she was a patient on the 3rd floor until June and was then transferred to Oceanview Extended Care. The family wish to thank all the staff of the 3rd floor and everyone in Oceanview for your kindness and caring.

Dr. Musgrave, we thank you for looking after our mum and dad all these years. For those who wish, the family would appreciate donations made to the B.C. ?F.O.S. Society, P.O.
