IAN MILTON LOOMER

Loomer, Ian Milton

1921 – 2017

Ian Milton Loomer died peacefully at Penticton Regional Hospital

on Friday, February 24, 2017 at the age of 95 years. He will be

forever missed by his son, Donald; daughters, Debbie (Robert)

Westley and Ellen (Owen) Lutje as well as extended family. He

was predeceased by his wife Phyllis; sister, Jessie Stevenson and

brother in law, Robert Stevenson. Ian was born in Summerland

on November 7, 1921 to parents George and Mary Loomer. At 18,

he enlisted in the army and served on the battlefields of Europe

in WWII. After the war, he worked on farms, in sawmills, and

as a logger and surveyor before joining the BC Forest Service.

In 1960, he married Phyllis Fulton and they lived in Kamloops,

Nelson, Edgewood and Armstrong as their family grew. In 1972,

the family moved to Penticton, and later Summerland, where Ian,

now in his fifties, embarked on a new vocation as an orchardist.

Meticulous and thorough, he was adept at whatever he put his

mind to.

On retiring, Ian and Phyllis lived in Penticton where Ian enjoyed

long daily walks and reading. He spent many hours at the

computer researching and compiling his family history. Ian will

be remembered for his quiet generosity, determination and sense

of humour.

The family would like to thank the staff at Penticton Regional

Hospital for the good care they gave Ian during his recent stay.

A graveside service will be held at Canyonview Cemetery,

Summerland Thursday, March 9, 2017 at 1:00 p.m.
