Iain Angus MacLean

MacLEAN – Iain Angus

Born December 6, 1932 in Prince Albert, Saskatchewan, died July 4, 2007 at home in Comox, BC. Predeceased by parents Murdoch and Elizabeth and brother Alexander. Survived by Eileen, wife of 39 years, daughters Elizabeth (Edward), Christy, grandson Cooper; brother Norman (Peggy); sister-in-law Joan’ nieces and nephews Doug (Lawrence), Kathleen (David), Gordon (Ruth), Ross (Lorna), Susan (Vic), Mary (Ron); nine great-nieces and great-nephews, and many good friends.

The youngest son of Murdoch and Elizabeth MacLean, Iain spent the first years of his life at Reindeer Lake where his father was a fur trader for the Hudson’s Bay Company. When Iain was five, his family moved to Comox where he began school and was a member of the last graduating class of Comox High School. Iain attended UBC and later was employed by the Department of Fisheries and Oceans. He spent thirty-five years on projects in River’s Inlet, the Babine Lake system and in 1978 was transferred to Courtenay to manage a hatchery being built on the Conuma River where he worked until his retirement in 1994. He had the greatest respect for nature, the environment and particularly the “salmon” family.

Iain loved to spend time in the kitchen creating gourmet meals and outside tending to his beautiful garden. He was a history buff, especially interested in World War II. He will be remembered for his gentle and quiet manner. He will be dearly missed by family and friends.

Special thanks to Dr. Musgrave and Dr. Blacklock for their care and support over the years.

In lieu of flowers, donations to the St. Vincent de Paul Society, Christ the King Conference, the Heart and Stroke Foundation or a charity of your choice are appreciated.

A funeral service celebrating Iain’s life will take place Monday, July 9, 2007 at 11:00 a.m. at Christ the King Church, 1599 Tunner Drive. Father Paul Murphy officiating. A reception will follow in the lower level of Christ the King Church.
