October 26, 1924 – February 6, 2017
Hatty Roberts, loving Wife and Mother, peacefully slipped away after a courageous battle with respiratory complications on Feb. 6 at NRGH. She was predeceased by her husband, Doug Roberts and is survived by their two daughters May Mackay and Gerry Cameron (Graham), grandsons, Brett Taylor, Derrick Taylor, Kirk Tipton, Clayton Tipton, 9 great grand children and 1 great great granddaughter. She also leaves behind her younger sister, the last of 8 siblings, Vera Lofgren and husband Richard at Hay Lakes, Alberta.
Hatty, born October 26th, 1924, at Hay Lakes, Alberta, lived most of her adult life in the Northfield area, where she was instrumental in acquiring city water to the residents at the north end of Bowen Road (previously the old Island Highway). After raising her family, she worked along side the dietitian in the kitchen at NRGH for many years. Later, being widowed in her mid fifties, she joined the chorus line of entertainers at the Nanaimo Senior Centre, and sang and danced her way through nursing houses for years bringing smiles to the faces of many residents throughout Nanaimo area.
She loved music and was a voracious reader. When she took up residence at Oaktree Manor, she became the first in-house librarian who kept the reading supply well managed. She will be soulfully missed by her friends there.
Hatty was a proud but gracious woman with the endurance and strength admired by family and friends. Her family and friends could always depend on her for support and encouragement. She is now at peace with the love of her life.
At her request, there will be no memorial.
May and Gerry, her loving daughters and Family.
