May He Go In Peace

Harry came to the end of his life journey in the early hours of Saturday, January 11th, 2003 in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital. He would have been 90 years old on January 26th, 2003. Harry was born in Tomaszow, Province of Lublin, Poland on January 26th, 1913. He came to Canada as a young man with his wife Stefania and infant son, Thomas in 1939. After a short stay in Alberta, Harry and his family settled on a ten acre parcel of land on Pleasant Valley Road, in the Swan Lake area of Vernon. This was to be their home for decades to come. He worked on the farm and at other work sites as a carpenter until his retirement. Harry and Stella were both in their eighties when ill health made the farm too much for them to manage. Harry was predeceased by his mother, Katarina, his father, Wasil, his sisters, Marina, Ksena, Paranka and Alexandra, his brothers, Mihal, Panko, Andrae and Lewun. He is survived by his wife Stefania and they would have celebrated their 70th Wedding Anniversary in October of this year. He will be lovingly remembered by his children; Thomas (June) Karina, Mary (Don) Kurbis and Joe (Kathy) Kiryna, his grandchildren; Rick (Karen) Kurbis and Kim Kurbis, his “Princess” and his great-grandchildren; Acaylia Kurbis and little sister, Kloe. Acaylia’s smile and a kiss on his forehead from Kim were sure to brighten his day. Little Kloe delighted in playing and having lunch with her “Pa-Pa”. Harry is also survived by nieces and nephews in the Trofimuk family from Alberta. Harry was a farmer and carpenter but his greatest love was for his farm. He grew fruit and vegetables, leaving only to work for building contractors as needed, always returning to the farm and the work he loved. He will be greatly missed by his family and friends. Cremation preceded the Celebration Of Life Service which will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Saturday, January 18th, 2003 at 1:00 P.M. with Reverend Wenzel Hanik officiating. A Reception will follow in the Tea Room at Bethel Funeral Chapel. As an expression of sympathy, those who wish to do so may send donations in memory of Harry Kiryna to the Vernon Hospice House, 3506-27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S4 or the Canadian Cancer Society, #104-3402-27th Avenue, Vernon, B.C. V1T 1S1. Funeral arrangements have been made with BETHEL FUNERAL CHAPEL LTD., 5605-27th Street, Vernon, B.C.
