LAMBERT, Harold (Harry)
January 22, 1926 – April 17, 2006
Dearly loved husband of Marilyn, cherished father of Elizabeth, Karen & John, proud ‘Poppa’ of Matthew and Adam and loving brother of Sheila. Harry was born in Haslingden, Lancashire, England, grew up in Blackpool and came to Canada in 1948.
He met Marilyn in Toronto in 1950 and they married the following year. Most of his working life was spent in the brewing industry, starting with ‘C & S’ in the UK, Labatt’s in Toronto and then Molsons Brewing Company in their new plant which opened in Toronto in 1956. In 1970 the family moved west when Harry accepted a transfer to the Vancouver branch of Molsons. The West Coast suited the family well and following retirement, Harry and Marilyn came to Vancouver Island to begin a new episode of their lives. Harry loved Qualicum Beach and the ever-changing views along the waterfront where he enjoyed morning walks and greeting friends he met along the way. He grew increasingly fond of the noble eagles that frequent this area of the Island, even though they kept him busy cleaning their daily deposits from the Lambert’s Anniversary bench which he dedicated to Marilyn on their 50th anniversary in 2001.
Harry was a good man, honourable, reliable and dependable. His word was his bond. He had a keen intellect, taught himself to master computers while well into his 70’s and loved the challenges they presented. He enjoyed crossword puzzles, good books, Brit dramas, music, peaceful serenity and the many wonderful people who became his friends in the Qualicum/Parksville area. Most of all he cherished the close relationship that existed within his family. He was as proud of each of them as they were of him.
Following Harry’s wishes, there will be no funeral service but a celebration of his life is planned. The date to be announced later.
If you wish to honour his memory, in lieu of flowers or donations, the family suggests that friends commit a random act of kindness. Our ‘Arry would like that.
