PALMER, Gwendolyn Grier
We are sad to announce the passing of our beloved Mother Gwen on January 6th, 2015. She passed away suddenly at the grand old age of 92 at Rosemary Heights. She will be truly missed by all who knew her. Mom was born in Argyle, Alberta on September 4th 1922. She grew up in Alliance on the family farm where she lived with her parents Walter and Maude Smith, as well as her older brother Stan and sisters Marge and Patricia. Mom and Dad moved to the lower mainland in 1957 from Edmonton and lived in Richmond for 28 years before they moved to White Rock to enjoy their retirement in 1985. Mom took up golf and spent many afternoons enjoying playing at Nico Wynd and Dakota Creek. Mom was a volunteer with the Peace Arch Hospital Woman’s Auxiliary and spent many wonderful days working at the Superfluity Shop. She was predeceased by her husband of 57 years, Irwin Palmer, daughter Karen (predeceased May 2011), son Brian (predeceased June 2014) (Arleen), and survived by son Richard (Pam), son Tim (Patti), son Stan (Sharon), son Dean (Martha), daughter Deborah (Jay), and son Ian. Mom had 16 beloved grandchildren and 5 beloved step grandchildren and also 17 great grandchildren and 10 step great grandchildren and many others she adopted and called her own over the 92 years of her incredible life. Our parent’s home was always open to our friends and neighbor’s… and anyone in need of a meal or friendship. Mom was a true force of nature and our memories of her strong spirit will live on in all the lives she touched. We would like to Thank Dr. Andre Bredenkamp, Claudia, and Dr. Sandhu for all the years of wonderful care. We would also like to thank the incredible care staff at Rosemary Heights where Mom lived in Assisted Living this past 16 months. Please join us for a celebration of Mom’s Life on Saturday January 24th at 1:00 pm at First United Church at 15385 Semiahmoo Avenue in White Rock, BC.
In lieu of flowers, donations to the Peace Arch Hospital Foundation would be appreciated.
