MUNRO, Grant James

December 20, 1943 – February 14, 2017

Dear Grant passed away on Valentine’s Day in the arms of his family. We are forever grateful for knowing and loving this strong and humble man. In 1986 Grant wrapped his loving arms around his new wife Pam and her two small children and moved from New Westminster to Pitt Meadows. Grant was predeceased by his father Elmer, mother Josephine, brother Keith and father-in-law Hugh. He will be deeply missed by Pam, son Shaun (Atsuko), daughter Joanne (Mike) and dear grandchildren Kaden, Owen, Jasmine & Mikayla. He is also remembered by brother Allan (Gail), sister-in-law Jill, cousin James, mother-in-law Thelma, sister-in-law and brother-in-law Judy and Mike and their extended families.

Grant was born in New Westminster and spent his childhood in Burnaby and Coquitlam. He then enjoyed 31 years working as a telephone and data installer for the BC Telephone Company. Encouraged by his brother Keith and his many collector friends, Grant developed a life-long interest in vintage cars and antique memorabilia. After his 1996 retirement he transformed his expertise, quirky collecting habit and love of “everything telephone” into Grant’s Telephone Classics, a prop rental company that has become a valuable resource for the BC Film Industry. Grant loved shooting the breeze with his buddies and helping his Set Dec friends find just the right prop. He walked his beloved dog Harlee around the neighbourhood every day making friends along the way.

Grant’s last year was very difficult but he faced it with incredible strength and hope. We are so grateful to the many health care professionals who cared for Grant. Special thanks to GP Dr. Gary Hayes, the palliative team at SMH, and nurse Catherine Pankras and Dr Eigl at the BC Cancer Agency. Grant’s final weeks were spent in the loving care of the entire staff of the Crossroads Inlet Centre Hospice in Port Moody.

As an expression of sympathy, donations can be made to the Crossroads Hospice Society or a charity of your choice.

Celebration of Life to be held on Saturday March 4, 2017 at 1:00 pm at Old Orchard Hall, 646 Bentley Road, Port Moody. Bright colours and jeans encouraged!
