Gloria Valerio Wheeler
May 4, 1935 – September 26, 2017
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Gloria Valerio Wheeler.
After a short fight with cancer Gloria passed away peacefully and without pain on Tuesday, September 26, 2017 at St. Joseph’s Hospital in Comox.
Gloria will be lovingly remembered by her husband Raymond Wheeler, and their daughters Carole, Rhoda, Kim and Jennifer.
Gloria was born May 4, 1935 in Manila, the oldest of 12 siblings. With nursing degree in hand, she went to Laos to pursue her career, working for the Operation Brotherhood and then becoming one of the first nurses to come to Canada in the mid 1960’s.
Working as a nurse in Fort St. John she met her husband Raymond, and after living in Williams Lake they settled in Parksville, Vancouver Island.
Gloria’s nursing career took her to Port Alberni, Ladysmith and Parksville, retiring after caring for others in her own home.
Working hard all of her life to take care of her family in Canada and those in the Philippines, she was a strong-willed and passionate woman who sacrificed for those important to her.
Gloria was buried at the Royal Oak Burial Park in Victoria on Monday, October 2, 2017.
In lieu of flowers, donations made in her name to the Canadian Cancer Society or Canadian Diabetes Association, will be appreciated.
Goodbye Mom, we will miss you forever…
