Gladys (Glady) Sarah Sirr
Sirr, Gladys Sarah (née Murphy) passed away in the Vernon Jubilee Hospital after a brief illness on Saturday, October 29, 2011 in her 83rd year.
Glady was born October 15, 1929 in Caroline Alberta and was predeceased by her parents, Bernice and Jim Murphy, her twin sister in infancy, her sister Sharon, and her infant grandson Cameron.
She will be sadly missed by her husband of 59 years, Clarence Sirr and her two sons; Darrel (April) Sirr of Vernon and Lea (Christina) Sirr of Kelowna , her Granddaughters Holly Sirr, Stacy Sirr, and Lauren Sirr, Her brother Pat Murphy, her sister Ava Bouvette, all her nieces and nephews as well as many friends and neighbours
Glady’s early years were spent in Alberta with a move into the Kootenays in her late teens. She met Clarence in Nakusp and after a whirlwind romance they eloped and were married in Coeur d’Alene, Idaho on December 31st 1951. They lived in Nakusp until 1956 then moved to Cherryville where they raised the boys and lived very happily for the next 50 years. After selling the farm they moved into Lumby where they enjoyed life in the Villas, and for the past two years they have had the pleasure of meeting new friends and living at Canterbury Court in Vernon.
Glady was a devoted wife and mother, an excellent neighbour and a loyal friend. She enjoyed travelling and spent many happy hours playing cards, shuffleboard, and bowling with friends. Glady was a bright light to all who knew her.
There will be a reception to honour Glady’s life for friends, family, and neighbours to get together and reminisce in the meeting room at Canterbury Court (3011 Gateby place, Vernon BC) on Sunday, November 13th 2011 between 2:00 and 4:00 p.m. We hope to see you there. As per Glady’s wishes there will be no funeral service.
