Freda Elsa Martin
On October 29th, 2014, at the age of 85 years, Freda Elsa Martin left this life to be at peace. She was surrounded by the love and care of her family and the great staff of the Polson Care Facility.
Freda was born on April 16th, 1929 in Vernon, B.C. to Adolph and Emily Kowalski. She married Ernie Martin on November 20th, 1949. In December 1951 their family started and from there they went on to raise three daughters, Beverly, Lorrie and Diane. Together Freda and Ernie built and operated the Martins Motel at the north end of Vernon, which they sold in 1967. After the hustle and bustle of the motel business, Freda was content as a homemaker, raising and caring for her family. Freda and Ernie enjoyed fishing, camping and traveling in their motorhome, getting out as often as possible throughout the years. Almost always they were accompanied by one or all of the family or some friends. Any and all outings were an excuse to have fun, sharing, and eating good food. Freda also enjoyed crocheting and her family and friends were often the recipients of her beautiful work. Above all, Freda loved her family and took particular joy in her seven grandchildren and eleven great-grandchildren.
Freda will be lovingly missed by her daughters, Bev (Guy) Morris, Lorrie (Jim) Wright and Diane Campbell; seven grandchildren, Shelley (Jason) Henderson, Melanie (Farren) Horsley, Chelsie (Rory) Lamont, Amanda (Brian) Marr, Martin (Jessica) Wright, Lindsey (Barrie) Beerstra and Kelsie (Ben) McLoughlin; eleven great-grandchildren, Carly, Haylie, Liam, Heidi, Ethan, Zakory, Griffin, Jorja, Thomas, Samuel and Weston; numerous nieces, nephews and extended family members. She was preceded in death by her husband Ernie; her parents, Adolph and Emily Kowalski; and an infant daughter.
Cremation preceded the Funeral Service which will be held at Bethel Funeral Chapel on Saturday, November 8th, 2014 at 11:00 A.M. with Pastor Richard D. Schulz officiating. A Reception will follow in the Bethel Tea Room. At the conclusion of the Reception, family and friends are invited to proceed to the Pleasant Valley Cemetery where Freda will be laid to rest beside her beloved husband Ernie, in the family plot.
