Fred (Freerk) Brouwer
Born January 5, 1938 ~ Died March 6, 2017 at the age of 79 in Chilliwack
Survived by Grace, his wife of 55 years, daughter Anita Rogers, daughter Heidi Nysten and husband Mel, grandchildren Corbin Kempenaar and wife Megan, Brayden Nysten, Jason Nysten, Cassandra Nysten and Dustin Nysten. Fred was born in Friesland, The Netherlands, the youngest of 8 boys to Gerrit and Hiltje Brouwer and grew up on the family dairy farm. He followed his brother to Canada in 1959, lived in Smithers, BC and started logging, hauling the logs with horses. His future wife Grace followed Fred to Canada in April 1962 and they were married in Terrace, BC on July 13, 1962 where they started their family and lived until 1976. In Terrace, Fred continued to work in the logging industry and steadily grew his logging contractor business. Fred and Grace had two daughters, Anita born in 1963 and Heidi born in 1966. In 1976, the family relocated to Williams Lake, BC where Fred continued to log for a couple of years before selling everything to purchase a ranch. The family worked the ranch together for a few more years after the girls left home. Fred and Grace sold the ranch in 1994 and moved to Alberta, where they lived until 2006. In 2006, Fred and Grace moved to Chilliwack. Unfortunately, in 2013 Fred’s health took a decline and he went to live in intermediate care in Heritage Village. The family truly appreciates the care that Fred received there. Fred passed away peacefully in his sleep with his family by his side. Services will be held at 11 am, Thursday March 9th, at the
Cornerstone Christian Reformed Church. 9800 McNaught Road, Chilliwack, BC. In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to the Alzheimer’s Society of BC.
