Franz (Frank) DYCK

DYCK; Franz (Frank)

December 30, 1927 – October 26, 2016

Franz was born in Blumegardt, Ukraine to a large family. He studied teaching at the University of Kiev. During this time, war broke out and he was conscripted to the army. After the war, he was sent to Siberia from Germany with many other Mennonite, but it was here, that he met his wife, Ludmilla and they had three children: Edward, Robert and Valentina (m. Karoway). Years later he returned back to the Ukraine, settling in Khortysia where he raised his family. In 1974, Franz immigrated to Canada and was known to his friends as Frank. He worked in Fraser Valley and for IMW Industries as a machinist. A job suitable for a man who enjoyed to tinker and come up with creative solutions. He built himself and his wife a home in Greendale and then another on Fairfield Island. He was devoted to his family, and spent his spare time with his children and grandchildren taking them camping and catching the fish they would eat for dinner. He loved to garden, especially tomatoes, which he grew in a greenhouse he built himself from recycled windows. He spent his life enriching it with knowledge, but also enjoyed many hobbies, including baking bread which he did as a child and until his final days. He will be remembered with respect and love by his family and friends. No funeral planned at this time.
