Ferne WITTY

1932 – 2012

Ferne was born in Winnipeg, Manitoba, November 9, 1932 to Ross and Cora McClary of Rosser, Manitoba, the fifth of six children. Ferne attended Normal School and at 17 started teaching in a one-room rural school. She went north to teach in a United Church school in Norway House. She met Jack, who was a fur trade clerk with the Hudson’s Bay Company, and they married in 1956. They, with their four sons, lived in many communities in Canada’s North. Ferne was a lifetime member of the United Church of Canada and an avid square dancer, tireless volunteer for the church and community causes. She was a dedicated and loving wife and mother to her four boys.

Ferne is survived by her husband Jack, sons: Robert (Juanita), David, Kevin (Marina), Douglas (Patricia); eight grandchildren: Jeffery, Kendall, Stephanie, Shawna, Ryan, Vincent, Jake and Vanessa.

A special thank you to everyone in the emergency room, the nursing staff and the doctors at 100 Mile District Hospital; the ambulance attendants and the Williams Lake Hospital emergency room staff and doctors. A special thank you to Dr. Vithalal for all your help.

Funeral services will be held at the 100 Mile United Church at 2:00 pm on Saturday, June 16, 2012. Rev. Jenny Carter will officiate.
