Ernest Donald Thompson
August 8, 1930 – January 3, 2017
Today we lost a truly great man, full of life, love and laughter. Always an adventurer. Born in Mission, Ernie grew up with two younger brothers, Alan and Chuck, who were extremely close to him their whole life. Ernie worked the tugboats, then enrolled in at the Culinary Arts Inst. In 1952 he married Shirley Dares and opened his first business of many; Ernie’s Auto Wrecking. In 1961 he moved his young family to Chilliwack and started another auto wrecker and a used car lot; E & E Motors. These were exciting times as Ernie loved to “Wheel & Deal”. He would bring home many unusual items that he had traded to get you behind the wheel of a car. His proudest accomplishment was building and opening Thompson Toyota in 1972, with his wife Shirley. At 48 years old, his next vision was manufacturing his own brand of motorhomes called “Little Chief” until retiring. A big man with a big heart, always ready to help a friend or family. He loved to hang out at his son’s shop and socialize & share stories and adventures in his later years. Ernie loved to fly, and owned two planes. He flew three times to Mexico with Shirley, and loved to take out the float plane to go fishing. He loved the outdoors, camping, holidaying and more fishing. He will be dearly missed by all the special people who knew him. A Special Thanks to Cascade Hospice for their kind care. A Celebration of Life for Ernie to be announced later this spring.
TAKE CARE AND KEEP YOUR FISHING HOOK SHARP.
