We regret to announce the passing of our dear mother at Gateby, Vernon, BC on Friday, June 2nd. Elsa was predeceased by her father, Peter Hinz; mother, Matilda Hinz; brothers, Albert Hinz, John Hinz, Arnold Hinz; sisters, Bertha Summerfelt, Hannah Summerfelt, Maxine Strattoks; father of her children, Oscar Summerfelt; son, Herbert Summerfelt and grandson, Darren Summerfelt. She is survived by her sisters’ Helen Holland, Dorothy Kevis; sons, Arnold (Joy) Summerfelt, Jack (Connie) Summerfelt; daughters, Irene McMullen, Charlotte (Frank) Middleton; 9 grandchildren; 3 step grandchildren; 7 great-grandchildren and 6 step great-grandchildren.

Elsa came with her children from Rosthern, SK to Lumby, BC in the early ‘50’s. The family resided on Whitevale Rd. for many years. Elsa held down various jobs in the area, the Christmas tree operation on the George Fiset property being one of them. Elsa was a very creative person; she pursued many hobbies making stuffed toys and many other sewed items. Elsa always kept an immaculate yard and enjoyed trees and flowers very much. She was a wonderful cook and homemaker for her children as she worked and raised her family alone. Later years she moved to Winfield, BC as her children were grown up. Elsa worked at the Winfield Packing House until she retired. In her later years she resided at McCulloch Court and then moved into Gateby where she received care and comfort.

Elsa always felt her greatest accomplishment was her children! May you take your rest till we meet again!

At Elsa’s request there will be no funeral service. The family will be laying her ashes to rest at Pleasant Valley Cemetery at 2:00 p.m., Friday, June 9th; anyone wishing to can join them. Pastor Hugh Stewart officiating. Donations may be made to a charity of your choice in memory of Elsa. Arrangements have been entrusted to Vernon Funeral Home 250-542-0155.
