Edith Margaret (Ruud) Nelson

Edith Margaret (Ruud) Nelson

Passed away peacefully with her family at her side on Thursday, September 1, 2016 at her new home, ‘Village by the Station’, in Penticton, BC. She was a strong little lady, right to her last breath.

She was predeceased by her father Anton in 1973, mother Aagot in 1987, husband Raymond in 1980, son Neil in 1950, daughter Linda in 1951, sister Bernice Mcdonald (Alistair) 2009, and sister Helen Briggs (Russell) 2001. She is survived by son Miles (Michelle), daughters Gayle (David), Thelma and Caroline, grandson Brennan, granddaughter Tiffany, great granddaughter Katelyn and numerous nieces and nephews.

Edith was the youngest of three daughters, born to Anton and Aagot Ruud on December 10, 1924, at the family farm near West Hazel, Saskatchewan. In 1943 mom joined the RCAF and served from February 3, 1943 until December 17, 1945. She was stationed in Dartmouth, Nova Scotia. Mom’s time in service was very special to her. We never tired of all the stories she would tell of her time in the RCAF. After WW2 she returned to Saskatchewan where she met and married Raymond Nelson in North Battleford. The couple eventually landed in Clearwater, BC with their family, where they lived for many years. In 1989 mom packed up her belongings and her two cats (Cheetah and Wiley) and moved to Penticton to enjoy her retirement years. She loved the lakes and never tired of her morning walks along Okanagan Lake. She also passed her time gardening, sewing and knitting wonderful sweaters. For a time she was a regular visitor at the farmer’s market, a volunteer at the Care Closet, and enjoyed exercise classes so she would remain strong and active. In 2015 Mom moved into the complex care unit at ‘Village by the Station’, her final stop.

The family would like to thank the staff at the Village for their wonderful care of our mother during her final year. The staff made her 91st birthday such a wonderful and special day for her. Thank you so much.

In lieu of flowers, donations can be made to the Good Samaritan Society Canada. A private service will be held at a later date.

Everden Rust Funeral Services and Crematorium has been entrusted with arrangements. Condolences can be sent to the family by visiting www.everdenrust.com.
