Earl Ross Bickford, resident of Spirit River passed away peacefully with his family by his side on Sunday,
March 2, 2008 at the Spirit River Hospital. Ross was born on June 14, 1920 in McGregor, Manitoba.
Ross farmed on a mixed family farm in Worby, Manitoba. He then worked for Alberta Power in Exshaw, Alberta and then to Barkerville, B.C. working on a gold dredge. Barkerville is where this handsome bachelor of 37 met the love of his life Florence. They moved to Fort St. John where he worked for Greg Janzer building the Condale Hotel and Theatre. As the boom went on Ross continued in building construction in Fort St. John, Dawson Creek and Spirit River. From the Peace Region, Ross and Florence moved to Vernon where they had a mobile home service. In their retirement, Ross and Florence travelled Canada and the U.S. extensively in their motorhome. Routine trips to Spirit River kept Ross and Florence close to family. Ross spent much time hunting and fishing with friends and spent special time with grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Ross enjoyed a very fulfilling and healthy life until Alzheimer’s diminished his quality of life.
Ross is predeceased by his parents Lottie and Sam Bickford; brothers Cyril, Keith and Bill; sisters Alberta, Ruth and Louise.
Ross is survived by his wife Florence, Henry Solli, Earl (Doreen) Solli; sisters: Mona (Cecil), Hazel (Tom), Barbara; grandchildren: Susan (Bernard), Cathy (Curtis), Michael; great-grandchildren: Brenton, Aaron, Cydnee, Andrew and many other nieces and nephews.
Funeral Services were held on Thursday, March 6, 2008 at 11:00 a.m. at the Spirit River United Church in Spirit River.
