DOUGLAS WILLIAM STANLEY

DOUGLAS WILLIAM STANLEY

Doug passed peacefully from this life early Sunday morning, August 30th, 2015 at the Vernon Hospital.

He had the opportunity this past month to see and say good bye to all of his family with the exception of one sister. He blew kisses to the little ones, and received our love with grateful attention. He maintained his dignity and quiet acceptance of his deteriorating condition in a manner to be admired. He lived a life filled with good friends, and a happy family, and worked for many years as an administrator in the pulp and paper industry.

He was able to live and retire in what he called “God’s Country”, and bought and built along with his immediate family, a beach house on the Shuswap. It became the family gathering place

and from year to year his presence will always remain. He spent many hours doing family history research, gathering photos and information enough to fill a bookshelf of binders. He was a wealth of knowledge of his ancestral family, and with a firm mind to the end, he never forgot a name or a place. He was a self taught man and there were few things he could not do, or learn to do. He has a great sense of humor, and was famous for statements such as: “That will put hair on your chest!”.

Doug was born in Shaunovan, Saskatchewan in 1929, but has lived in British Columbia since 1954. He is survived by his wife of 64 years, Pearl Stanley, 3 children: Dawn (Dennis), Dennis, and Dave (Alice), 7 grandchildren, and 4 great grandchildren. His cheerful, friendly presence will be greatly missed by all.

A celebration of his life will occur at Inglewood Seniors Complex Clubhouse – 1001 – 30th Avenue, Vernon on Saturday, September 5th from 2pm – 4pm.

All who knew him are invited to share memories and visit with his family.
