With great sadness we announce the passing of Doug Grant, aka “Pops”, on September 17, 2014, at the age of 84, from cancer. Douglas Van Vliet Grant was born June 24, 1930 in Lacolle, Quebec. He married the love of his life, Tunie, in 1956. Doug and Tunie nurtured a love of music and the outdoors in their 4 children and the family moved several times. In the 1970s, Doug built the family a log house atop Bear Mountain in Dawson Creek. The home was full of music, parties, friends, band practices, and laughter. Doug and Tunie settled in the Enderby area in 1995, where he continued to work and drum with a variety of bands, often at his favourite venue The Vernon Jazz Club, where the Grant family and friends held near-yearly concerts. In addition to being an accomplished musician, Doug was an avid fisherman, sportsman, big-game guide, artist, photographer, and practical joker. He was a mentor and a role model to many. Doug will forever be remembered by his wife Tunie, son Doug Jr & wife Lisa, daughter Carolyn, son Ian & wife Karen, son Bob & wife Megan, grandchildren Kyle, Cody, Dylan, Mallory, Jamey, Rachael, Taylor, Owen, Sydney, Charlotte, and great-grandchildren Emery and Felix, as well as extended family members and friends across the country.
A Celebration of Life will be held for Doug in mid October. In lieu of flowers, donations to The Vernon Jazz Club are welcome.
