CHRISTIE, Donald Laing. June 17, 1926 ~ Jan. 26, 2012. A life celebrated by his loving wife of 63 years, Barbara, their four children, daughters Terry, Nancy (Mike Girard) and sons Stephen (Heather), Phillip (Karen), his ten grandchildren and one great grandchild, Other surviving family, include recently married older sister Jean and elder brother Reg Christie, help keep the memories of Don’s life alive.
We will miss his humour, the twinkle in his eye, his “unique” singing style and the essence of his being. His was a life well lived. Traveller of the world, sailor on the HMS Bounty in the Caribbean and Australia, gentlemen farmer in Langley and builder of the first family home in North Vancouver were but a few of the roles played in his varied life. A great career of 39 years with Finning’s, enabled a myriad of experiences with many people from all walks of life. Whether dealing with the lawyers, the insurance man or the janitor, humbly Don would listen to everyone’s story. Whether he was in Prince George or Nelson selling a tractor, or in France buying a new helicopter for Finning, he was at his best when meeting new people, finding common ground and finding out about what they valued. Blessed by virtue of being born in Vancouver, enlisting at the end of World War II and enjoying the prosperity of the post war era, Don truly enjoyed a successful and fulfilling life. Our special thanks to caregiver, Maureen Marshall, Dr. Gary Nataros and staff at the Maple Hill Extended Care Facility in Langley. A Celebration of Life will be held March 3 in Langley.
