David Mark Dobinson

July 30, 1966 – January 27, 2021
It is with great sadness that the family of David wish to announce his sudden passing in Warsaw, Poland where he resided. A stroke took him from us far too soon.
Predeceased by his father, Sidney, he leaves to mourn his partner, Asia; his mother, Joy; siblings Lesley (Stu), Sidney, Peter (Linda), Laura (Gerald) and many nieces and nephews.
David was born in Comox and was a much loved son and baby brother. He grew up in Courtenay with many friends and all that the valley has to offer. But, during a trip back to England with his parents as a teenager, he fell in love with London.
Realizing he would prefer city life, he lived in both Victoria and Vancouver upon graduating from Vanier. But London still beckoned and he decided he needed to experience living in that great city. His life-long love of music led him to work selling high-end audio and video equipment which, in turn, took him into the homes of some of the rich and famous.
After spending much of his adult life in England and always up for an adventure, David decided he was ready for a change and moved to Poland to teach English. He loved living in Krakow and Warsaw, finding fulfilment in his work and eventually meeting and enjoying much happiness with his partner, Asia. In the past few years he also discovered a new passion when he picked up a paintbrush and found he had a talent for bold, modern art. Spending time in his studio brought him much joy and he was beginning to sell some of his work.
David’s quick wit, intelligence and sense of fun made him many friends. Besides music and art, he enjoyed travelling and had a great sense of style. In his younger years he was one of the first to wear fashionably ripped jeans and, on an overnight stay with his grandmother, was dumbfounded to wake up and find she had sewn neat patches on them, thinking her poor grandson was suffering hard times.
Although a long life for David wasn’t meant to be, his family takes comfort in the fact that he lived it fully in the time he had. He will be forever missed and always in our hearts.
A funeral for David was held in Poland and we will celebrate his life here when restrictions allow.Obituary-
