Darrell passed away peacefully on Tuesday, July 31, 2007 at St. Joseph’s General Hospital Extended Care Unit following a five year illness.

He leaves to mourn his loving wife Joo Yeon (Fionna); his parents Dora and Claude; his brother and sister-in-law Dan and Jo-Ann Glaus all of the Comox Valley; his niece Brittany Pelletier (Campbell River) and children of marriage Jordan and Jonathon (Calgary), Joey, Krystal and Jessica (Comox Valley) and a large extended family of aunts, uncles and cousins. He was predeceased by his younger brother Christopher in 1982.

Darrell was born on January 12, 1970 in Yellowknife NWT and moved with his family to the Comox Valley in September of that year. He attended school in the Comox Valley graduating from G.P. Vanier Senior Secondary in 1988. Following his graduation, Darrell travelled to Belgium as a Rotary Exchange Student where he studied for one year and became fluent in the French language. On his return to Canada he attended the University of Victoria, graduating with a Bachelor of Arts degree. Darrell then decided to travel to Guatemala where he enrolled in a language school to learn Spanish. Having learned Spanish he then decided to stay in Guatemala and worked there for an extended period of time. On his return to Canada he worked in Vancouver where he met his wife Fionna. They were married in 2000 and in 2002 moved to Seoul, South Korea where he taught at a school there until suffering a heart arrest.

Darrell will be greatly missed by those who knew and loved him. He will be remembered for his generous and thoughtful nature and for his willingness to help others.

A Service celebrating Darrell’s life will take place on Saturday, August 11, 2007 at 2:00 p.m. from the COMOX VALLEY FUNERAL HOME CREMATION AND RECEPTION CENTRE, 1101 RYAN ROAD, Courtenay.

In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the B.C. Heart and Stroke Foundation.

Darrell’s family would like to express their appreciation to Dr. Rod Ptak and the many caring and compassionate nurses and caregivers at the Extended Care Unit of St. Joseph’s Hospital; with a special thank you to Gordon Carter, Hospital Chaplain.
