Dale Gene Wennerberg

Gene passed away peacefully at home in the early hours of March 31st at the age of 78. After suffering for several months from Pulmonary Fibrosis, he went to live with Jesus.

Gene was born in Pasadena California, November 15, 1932. He married his childhood sweetheart, Sharon in 1955. They moved to Olympia Washington where Gene was in the Army at Fort Lewis. In 1968, Gene and his friend came to Courtenay on a so called ‘fishing trip’. Returning home they showed their wives picture postcards of the Forbidden Plateau Ski Lodge and said “Isn’t this pretty? -Well, we just bought it!!” So they ran the lodge for a year. They fell in love with the Comox Valley and they decided to stay here. Gene loved to sing, fish, golf, and garden. He was in Co-Val Choristers for many years, directed the Evergreen Choristers, was in VC Clown Club, entertained at all the nursing homes, and was with Citizens on Patrol Society for 11 years. He was a faithful member of Comox Pentecostal Church. He and Sharon loved being in Hawaii and served for many years at University of the Nations.

Gene is survived by his loving wife Sharon of 55 years, son Dan (Betty-Anne), son Mike (Betty Ann), daughter Cheri (Glenn) Loxam. Gene had seven Grandchildren, Melissa, Richard, Kristi, Jesse, Stephanie, Michael, and Christina and seven Great-grandchildren. Gene is predeceased by his brother Roy, sister Betty, and grandson Kenny.

The Celebration of Gene’s life will be held Saturday April 9th at 2 pm at the Comox Pentecostal Church. 1919 Guthrie Rd. Donations may be made in Gene’s memory to the Comox Pentecostal Church Missions Fund.
