It is with great sadness the family of Herb Palmer announce his passing. After a lengthy battle with cancer, Herb passed peacefully in the Elk Valley Hospital with family at his side.
Herb was born in Fernie and raised in the Dorr and Baynes Lake area. Herb continued to live out his life in the South Country, farming and raising a family. No stranger to hard work, he built a farm and raised some of the best crops and cattle in the area. He took great pride in his accomplishments and his ability to always provide for his family. Herb tried his hand at many other jobs, from logging, truck driving, working at various saw mills, water well drilling, and of course witching for water, an art that he was very successful at. Herb was very proud of another business venture that they embarked on. The development of PR Campground and RV Park. Although Herb was one who never travelled, nor did he want to, the campground gifted him and his wife with many new precious friends and a lot memorable fun times. But his heart always remained on the farm with his family. Herb had a soft spot for all animals, but mostly his dogs. Herb really loved his dogs, and they loved him back. Rarely did you ever see Herb without a dog. Herb also loved people and children. He was never above helping anyone, family, friends and complete strangers. He would have given the shirt off his back if he thought it would have made a positive difference in someone’s life. His generosity is legendary as is his sense of humor. He loved to tease or play a practical joke on someone anytime the opportunity presented itself. To make someone smile or laugh was a highlight for him.
Herb truly lived a full life, doing the things he loved to do. He will never be forgotten and will be missed by so many.
Herb was predeceased by his father, Benjamin Wilfred Palmer, his mother Elizabeth Anne Palmer (Letcher), and sisters, Elizabeth Louella Nohles (Bette Lou) and Anne Lorraine Baher (Lorraine).
