BRIAN EDWARD KORCHINSKI
Died October 21, 2008. Aged 62
Brian died peacefully in Peace Arch Hospital after a long illness. He lived life to the fullest and took every opportunity to engage in the things he loved to do. During his final months, he was pleased he could spend time with close friends, enjoy his garden, watch the sunset and walk his dog. Brian was full of spirit and boundless energy. He had a wonderful sense of humour and a warm laugh. All who met him were fond of him. He will be sorely missed.
Brian was born in Winnipeg and moved to British Columbia in 1965. He attended Simon Fraser University and became a Registered and Psychiatric Nurse. He retired from nursing in 2001, the last 11 years of his professional work was at Peace Arch Hospital in the Intensive Care Unit.
He was always active and loved yoga, home décor, gardening, music and cooking. He was very generous with his time and volunteered for many organizations. Brian enjoyed his nursing career but retirement gave him the opportunity to pursue his passion for the arts full time. He sang in three choirs, enjoyed song writing, sculpture and tailoring. He enjoyed and excelled in drawing and painting. His paintings were exhibited in many shows and
received critical acclaim. He was proud that he was able to complete a last painting this past summer.
He leaves both to grieve and celebrate a very special life, Dennis his life companion of 45 years, his sister Dianne of Toronto and his brother Terry of Winnipeg, his sister-in-law Dorise of New Westminster and nieces and nephews Ananda, Gina, Jason, Leo and Trevor and many, many friends.
The family wishes to thank all those who have been so helpful these past three years. Deepest gratitude goes to Marni, Brian’s close friend and rotation partner at Peace Arch Hospital who attended every medical appointment, chemotherapy session and hospital admission. Also, special thanks to the Healing Touch folks: Eleanor, Mary-Anne and Polly as well as the nurses and doctors in the Palliative Care Unit. The family is also grateful to the nurses and doctors of Crescent Beach Home Support Service that provided great comfort to Brian in his final months at home.
A memorial service to celebrate Brian’s life will be held at Victory Memorial Park 14831-28 Ave, Surrey October 31st at 2 pm (604-536-6522)
All of Brian’s friends and colleagues are invited to attend.
