Alf Melville BAKKEN

May 27, 1924 – Nov. 2, 2004

Alf M. Bakken, born in Craik, Sask., May 27, 1924. One of eight children who had many stories to tell about the hard prairie life. A Second World War veteran, who sailed across the Atlantic Ocean 18 times.

Alf is survived by his wife of 50 years, Joyce; four children, Gordon, Beverly, Darrell, and Jenny; his granddaughter Lea; brother Connie; sister Winnie; and nieces, nephews and extended family.

His wonderful smile, laughter, jokes, and positive character will be greatly missed by all who knew him. A loving and supportive father who would be there for you at any given time, will be so sadly missed and never ever forgotten. He fought a hard and brave battle against cancer for over a year.

Teacher of math and science for over 30 years in B.C., spending most of it at A.D. Rundle High School in Chilliwack. Bringing his wit, wisdom, and love for teaching into the classroom. He was very well liked and left impressions on many of his students.

Very well-known as a great fiddle player. He was in a band with his daughter Beverly, playing the bass guitar, the fiddle, and even sang some Johnny Cash. He had an exceptional gift for music, his naked ear could recognize any note.

His love and care for animals were truly recognized, especially looking after the birds in the winter. His orchard and garden that could feed you all summer long was one of his many hobbies. Watching the stars through his telescope, dreaming up and creating inventions, his mind never stopped working. When he spoke not only was it educational, as teaching came to him very naturally, he was very interesting and definitely worth listening to. Anyone who met or knew him, we are sure that he has left you a story for you to remember.

Services will be held Saturday, Nov. 6, 2004 at 2 p.m. at Vedder View Gardens Cemetery, 44675 Watson Rd., followed by refreshments and snacks at Cultus Lake Hall.
