Alexander (Alex) Leopold Steinke was born on January 25th, 1922 in Jawor, Poland and passed away peacefully on Monday, April 20th, 2009 in Vernon, B.C. at the age of 87 years. Alex will be lovingly remembered by his wife, Emmy; to whom he was married for 61 years, his children; Waldemar (Susan) Steinke of Vernon, B.C., Gary (Heather) Steinke of Edmonton, AB and Trudy (Martin) Madelung of Courtenay, B.C., his grandchildren; Lisa (Aaron) Heidt of Vernon, B.C., Sara (Ben) McLean of Vernon, B.C., Fraser (Sarah) Madelung of Victoria, B.C., Kelsey Madelung of Courtenay, B.C., Nicholas (Vanessa) Steinke of Calgary, AB and Meghan Steinke of Edmonton, AB, his great-grandchildren; Simon Heidt and Rosie McLean, his brothers; Edmund (Tilo) Steinke of Dawson Creek, B.C., Richard Steinke of Prince George, B.C. along with numerous nieces, nephews, extended family members and friends. Alex was preceded in death by his parents; Teofil and Pauline Steinke, two brothers; Otto and Julius Steinke, two sisters; Lydia Franz and Alma Steininger and one daughter; Rita Steinke. Alex’s greatest accomplishment was his family whom he loved dearly. He was a huge sports fan and loved pigeon racing.

A Funeral Service will be held at St. John’s Lutheran Church on Friday, April 24th, 2009 at 1:30 PM with Pastor Roy White officiating. Interment will follow in the Pleasant Valley Cemetery.
