Saanich Police searching for suspect who grabbed female in field outside Mount Douglas secondary

A woman in her mid-20s felt threatened when she was approached by a male while attempting to cut through the field of Mount Douglas secondary school on Tuesday night.

Shortly after 8:30 p.m. Saanich Police received a report that a woman had been accosted by a male while walking northbound on the edge of the school property between Teakwood Place and Forest Road.

“The suspect ran up from behind her and attempted to engage her in conversation,” said Sgt. Andy Walsh. “When the female indicated that she wanted nothing to do with the male, he then grabbed at her.”

She then screamed, at which point the suspect disengaged and ran off.

The female was uninjured but understandably shaken by the event. A police canine unit was deployed to the area but the suspect was not located.

He is described as approximately six feet tall with a heavy build and dark features, 35 to 45 years old and wearing a light grey hoodie, dark jeans and possibly running shoes.

Saanich Police remind those walking alone in the evening to remain vigilant and aware of their surroundings, and to use caution if they chose to wear headphones or ear buds.

Anyone with information on the incident is asked to contact the Saanich Police 250-475-4321 or Crime Stoppers 1-800-222-8477.
