BC Ferries will resume regularly scheduled sailings for the Northern Expedition this evening as adverse weather conditions in the North Coast have subsided. The BC Ferries website issued an update at 10:27 a.m., saying that the ferry will depart Prince Rupert on Tuesday, November 7 at 10:00 p.m. and will arrive at Skidgate at 6:00 a.m.

The tug and barge, MV Cadal has cancelled its sailing for the remainder of the day.

Environment Canada issued a wind warning on Nov. 7 at 5:00 a.m for Prince Rupert on its website, saying strong winds that may cause damage are expected or occuring.

According to the forecast, a ridge of high pressure over the BC interior in combination with an area of low pressure off the BC coast was expected to produce strong winds of approximately 90 km/h through the mainland inlets and valleys of the central and north coast.

“Damage to buildings, such as to roof shingles and window, may occur,” the warning said. “High winds may toss loose objects or cause tree branches to break.”

Environment Canada issues wind warnings when there is a significant risk of damaging winds. The Northern View will provide updates as new information becomes available.
