District of Clearwater continues to use far more water than it should on a per capita basis, according to a report from engineers TRUE Consulting.

Over the past three years, overall annual water consumption has increased by about 20 per cent while population growth has been much less.

The engineers have no explanation for the increase.

What is happening with the water has been a mystery for some time.

Several leaks were repaired last summer but use continues high, especially winter nighttime use.

Winter period use has increased to 1,500 litres/person/day while in comparable municipalities it is about 500 litres/person/day. The difference of 1,000 litre/person/day equates to 85 per cent of Well #1.
