Westbank First Nation will be working on a number of capital improvement projects on its lands this summer.
Currently there are four projects planned:
– WFN is looking to improve safety on Old Okanagan Highway. Curbing, sidewalks and streetlights will be installed along Old Okanagan Highway, from Daimler Road to Grizzly Road
– Construction is currently underway on the third floor of the WFN government office. This renovation will include updates to offices, addition of a lunch room and the relocation and update of WFN council chambers
– The WFN community acknowledged the need for the development of a new youth centre in 2010 during a comprehensive community planning exercise. The new 12,000-square-foot youth centre will be located at 1900 Quail Lane, adjacent to the WFN community services building. Seventy per cent of funding for construction will come from general WFN tax revenues, while 30 per cent will come from own source/member revenues. Tenders for the construction of the building will be received from contractors until May 28. Construction will commence with a public ceremony this summer, and is anticipated to be complete in the fall of 2015
– Construction is now underway on the Sneena Road Overpass Project. WFN is responsible for managing the project until completion in November. The project includes an overpass at Highway 97 and Sneena Road and an extension of Sneena Road, from Tomat Avenue to Campbell Road. Cyclist and pedestrian pathways have been incorporated into the final design.
