West Kelowna man faces charges relating to fire looting

Police have arrested a West Kelowna man in relation to the looting of a home that was evacuated during the Smith Creek fire last summer.

“On July 7, 2014, the West Kelowna RCMP received a report of a break and enter and theft at a residence on the 2500 block of Cobblestone Road,” said Const. Kris Clark.

“The residence had been subject to an Evacuation Order as a result of an active wildfire in the Smith Creek area. When the occupants returned after the Order was cancelled, they discovered that someone had been in their home and that some of their things were missing.”

Niso Kamhakoataew, 21,  of West Kelowna has since been charged with Break and Enter and Commit. He is scheduled to appear in Court in Kelowna on Jan. 19.
