Penticton Search and Rescue holding a recruitment drive

They are called upon during emergencies and disaster situations, but now the Penticton Search and Rescue are asking for a little support of their own.

Responding to an average of 50 calls per year, the Penticton Search and Rescue has served the area since 1973. They are currently looking for new volunteers to join their team.

All SAR team members must complete basic ground search and rescue training within their first year of joining the team. All training and certification levels range from basic to advanced and instructor. Many Penticton SAR members are certified in multiple disciplines.

SAR activities might include: ground search and rescue (including wilderness survival, mapping, compass and GPS tracking), high angle and embankment rope rescue, avalanche awareness and rescue, swift water rescue, mountain rescue, Helicopter entry/exits, search and rescue management, police evidence search and support and many more tasks.

Penticton Search and Rescue operates under the non-profit organization Penticton and District Emergency Services Society and is wholly supported by donations and public grants from the community.
