Vernon city hall embraces social media

Residents can access information through Facebook, Twitter and YouTube

Social media is changing how the City of Vernon interacts with residents.

The city launched Facebook and Twitter services in March.

“Now, the Facebook page has 43 Likes and there are 212 Twitter followers,” said Courtenay Pitcher, communications officer.

“Whether the topics are fire prevention, road upgrades, council agendas, human resources opportunities, transportation, public works, water, or community policing, the city’s goal is to keep the public informed.”

Pitcher said the city looks forward to the public’s input and feedback via these services.

“The accounts are monitored, and responded to, during regular office hours during the week.”

The Facebook page can be found at www.facebook.com/pages/Corporation-of-The-City-of-Vernon-BC/274909975919001

The Twitter account is https://twitter.com/#!/cityofvernon while there is a YouTube account at www.youtube.com/user/CityofVernon?feature=watch

“Alternatively, the public can get to all channels via Vernon’s home page at www.vernon.ca,” said Pitcher.
