A crime report from the Vanderhoof RCMP shows a slight increase in criminal occurrences this fall in comparison to last year.

In October and November 2010 there were 576 crimes reported compared to 603 in October and November this year.

The report covers the areas of Vanderhoof, Saik’uz, Cluculz Lake and rural area F.

The number of assaults and property damage were up in 2011 compared to 2010, however the number of traffic accidents, thefts of vehicles and break and enters to businesses are down. The number of liquor offenses stayed the same.

“These statistics mean that the prolific offenders that we caught have been released from jail and sent home again,” said Sgt. Dave Beach of the Vanderhoof RCMP.

“So now what will happen is we will catch them again and put them back in jail – there is a small group of under 10 people that cause all the grief,” he said.

If you have any information about a crime please call the Vanderhoof RCMP on 250-567-2222.
