A urology program for 100 Mile House has been approved by Interior Health.
Cariboo-Chilcotin MLA Donna Barnet made the announcement this morning (April 23).
“I have been told that after an extensive review, Interior Health will now go ahead with the urology services at 100 Mile District General Hospital.”
She said it is “very exciting and positive news” that will certainly save time for the many local patients who currently face a two-to-four hour drive to Kamloops.
Barnett has championed a local lobby for the return of urology services, along with the South Cariboo Health Foundation (SCHF) – which has repeatedly offered $230,000 to help fund it – and other local stakeholders.
“It would not be possible without the support of the urologists at Royal Inland Hospital [in Kamloops], nor would it be possible without the [SCHF] and the people who donate to the foundation to provide better health care in our community and in our region.”
