UPDATE: Rec Centre reopened

Facility closed for a few hours while B.C. Hydro crews make repairs

The Vernon Recreation Centre has reopened after closing briefly this afternoon to allow BC Hydro to address issues with a nearby transformer.

Thank you to the public for their patience and to BC Hydro for the quick response. …………………………………………..

The Vernon Recreation Centre has had to close its facilities unexpectedly around noon while B.C. Hydro crews perform work on a nearby transformer.

Staff at the recreation centre reported electrical issues beginning at 8 a.m. this morning and determined with B.C. Hydro that a nearby transformer was malfunctioning.

B.C. Hydro advised city staff to close the building until repairs were completed, which are anticipated to take one to two hours.

The facilities were evacuated and all power shut off. Users that were evacuated were provided free passes to the recreation centre.

The City will provide an update when the facility reopens.
