UPDATE: One suspect arrested following violent home invasion in Nanaimo

19-year-old suspect arrested, RCMP searching for remaining suspects of Howard Avenue crime

Police in Nanaimo have arrested one man and are actively searching for additional suspects in a violent early-morning home invasion that sent three men to hospital with injuries.

A 19-year-old man was arrested Sunday at about 10 p.m. at a home in south Nanaimo for breaking and entering, assault with a weapon, and wearing a disguise with intent to commit a crime. The suspect was later released on a promise to appear in provincial court in Nanaimo on March 13.

Three men were assaulted and one of them was beat up with a baseball bat in a home invasion in Harewood early Sunday morning. Nanaimo RCMP responded a little after 7 a.m. to the scene in the 600 block of Howard Avenue.

The three victims of the home invasion were treated at Nanaimo Regional General Hospital and released.

According to police, the home invasion incident resulted from an ongoing dispute between a group of young men and was not connected to the fatal shooting of a man in Harewood on Saturday, nor is the dispute connected to drugs or organized in Nanaimo or elsewhere.
