Update: Highway open, investigation on Wood Lake slows traffic between Kelowna and Vernon

RCMP are investigating a suspicious barrel in the ditch 2 km north of Oceola Road

Update: The highway has been reopened after it was determined the suspicious barrel contained a ground glass product used in building the highway.


The Lake Country RCMP have reduced highway traffic to a single lane with periodic full closures to allow a Hazardous Materials team to investigate the contents of a suspicious barrel in the ditch about 2 km north of Oceola Road on Highway 97 adjacent to Wood Lake. The highway is being reduced to single lane traffic with periodic full closures.

There have been no injuries and no contamination to Wood Lake.

Motorists are encouraged to use an alternate route until the highway can be fully reopened.
