UPDATE: Five-year-old boy drowns in Surrey bathtub Sunday

First responders tried to revive the boy for about an hour.

Surrey RCMP are investigating after a six-year-old boy drowned in a bath tub.

Editor’s note: Police originally said the deceased boy was six, but have since confirmed that he was five.

SURREY — A five-year-old boy is dead after Surrey RCMP say he drowned in a bathtub inside a Whalley home Sunday.

Police say the boy died in a home near 109th Avenue and University Drive late Sunday afternoon.

First responders tried to revive the boy for about an hour.

Police say adults were in the home at the time of the boy’s death.

Investigators are talking to them and no names have been released as of Monday morning.

“We’re continuing to investigate today with the coroner,” said Sergeant Alanna Dunlop.
