UPDATE: Fire in Kelowna commercial building

Firefighters battled a commercial fire Tuesday morning along Harvey Avenue

Shortly after 6 a.m. Tuesday morning, the Kelowna Fire Department responded to a fire in a commercial building in the 1700 block of Harvey Ave.

“First arriving crews encountered a fire in a second floor computer server room. The fire had extended into the floor and ceiling,” said Scott Clarke, platoon captain.

“Crews were able to quickly get the fire under control, however the building did sustain some structural, smoke and water damage.”

The cause of the fire is under investigation.

Three engines, a ladder truck, a rescue unit, a command unit, and a safety unit including 20 fire personnel responded to this incident.

The Kelowna Fire Department would like to remind people to check their smoke alarms. Working smoke alarms save lives.

Kelowna firefighters are at the scene of a commercial fire along Highway 97, near Spall Road.

Multiple fire trucks surrounded the building at 1751 Harvey Avenue, Tuesday as they responded to a commercial fire alarm.

Lonnie Burma of Lonnie’s Drum Studio said he arrived about 7 a.m. and saw all the trucks were already there.

He said the fire reportedly started in the utility room adjacent to his drum studio. Fire crews, he was told, were able to contain the blaze from spreading quickly, but are they still had to work on extinguishing it completely.
