Two Surrey motorists charged in alleged street race

SURREY — Two motorists are facing dangerous driving charges related to an alleged street race last December that demolished a 2007 Lamborghini Murcielago.

Adam Shtay, 27, from Edmonton, and Joshua Dally, 31, from Surrey, has each been charged with dangerous operation of a motor vehicle while street racing.

Police said the alleged race, between the Lamborghini and a 2013 Dodge Viper, ended with a crash at Highway 99 near 32nd Avenue, on Dec. 22, 2014.

Surrey firefighters had to put the flaming Lamborghini out.

“Witnesses described the two vehicles traveling at excessive speeds before the crash occurred,” Surrey RCMP Cpl. Dale Carr said. “During the course of their investigation, officers learned that the vehicles reached speeds up to 157 kilometres an hour.”

Carr said the RCMP has requested that both vehicles be forfeited to the state as offence related property should the accused be convicted.

“Luckily no one was seriously injured, however, the consequences of such a high speed collision on a major arterial roadway in our city could have been catastrophic.”
