A couple in their seventies were seriously burned in a mobile home fire early Thursday morning.

The two victims were able to escape the flames, but were airlifted to Vancouver General Hospital for treatment.

The fire erupted in the mobile home in the 50000-block of O’Byrne Road at about 3 a.m.

Firefighters from Chilliwack and the Chilliwack River Valley arrived to find the mobile home and one vehicle fully engulfed in fire, which was spreading to an adjacent mobile home.

The mobile home and vehicle were heavily damaged by the fire, but fire crews were able to extinguish the blaze in the adjacent mobile, which suffered only smoke and water damage.

The cause of the fire is unknown, and is under investigation by provincial fire officials.

Police do not consider the fire suspicious.
