Two drivers lost their lives in a head-on collision on Highway 97 Monday morning.

Regional Commander Sgt. Mike Hacker of the Cariboo Chilcotin Regional Traffic Services said the men were killed on impact at about 9 a.m. just south of Lac La Hache.

The initial investigation points to the northbound pickup truck driven by a man from the Lower Mainland crossing the centre line and hitting a smaller southbound SUV, driven by a man from Williams Lake.

Both men were believed to be in their 40s. No names have been released.

The accident closed the highway intermitently throughout the day as officers investigated the scene.

Hacker said although road conditions were not optimal at the time of the incident, he doesn’t believe it played a factor in the crash.
