A pair of local farms want to be able to serve wine.
Ripples Winery and Maan Farms are each seeking winery lounge endorsements from the province.
Ripples Winery currently has a manufacturer licence, but can’t serve more than 150 milliliters to those visiting its Sumas Prairie site. Ripples is seeking permission to create an outdoor patio that could seat 30 people. It would then be allowed to serve them B.C. wine by the glass or bottle.
Ripples hopes to open 10 a.m. to 10 p.m. on Sunday, Wednesday and Thursday and 10 to 10:30 p.m. on Friday and Saturday.
Maan Farms, meanwhile, wants to be able to serve wine inside and out at its McKenzie Road location, where it already operates Maan Farms Estate Winery. Its plans, if fulfilled, would see a patio with seating for 20 outside, along with inside seating for 48. Its proposal envisions operating from 9 a.m. to 10 p.m. seven days a week.
Council raised no major objections Monday, but before the city sends both applications to the province, locals will be able to comment at a future council hearing.
