Train time at the museum

Four-year-old Trevan Larkam helps make the railway crossing sign move as Brian Torch controls the train at his display in the Annual Train Show Jan. 31 at the Museum at Campbell River. Torch, who lives in Campbell River, is a member of the North Island Railroaders. The Train Show is put on by members of the North Island Model Railroaders and other model train and remote-control logging equipment enthusiasts. “It’s our way to introduce model railroading to the public,” said Maynard Atkinson of the North Island Model Railroaders. “It’s also our way of fundraising for the museum. People like trains. It’s a good hobby too.” Atkinson has been interested in trains for as long as he can remember. “I can remember as a boy riding a model train in a park; I was fascinated by why did the train follow the tracks, and from then on, I’ve been interested in trains. I like the history too.”
