Several people have identified their stolen goods after police released photos of a cache discovered in East Trail on Sunday.

“We are taking steps to verify that the items belong to the owners,” Sgt. Mike Wicentowich told the Trail Times early Thursday. “We are arranging the return of these items to owners, (and) we are continuing to investigate the matter and the suspect involved.”

So far no charges have been laid against the man, who police have not identified.

“We will forward charges to Crown counsel if we have obtain enough evidence to do so,” Wicentowich said.

With success in identifying those pilfered items through media, on Thursday police released more photos of odds and ends recovered from that same residence.

Wicentowich added, “We have three additional photographs containing items that we believe can be identified by the public and returned to their rightful owners.”

This second round of recovered items includes watches and other jewelry, old medals, and keys.

The case began after reports of a man carrying a shotgun around East Trail led the RCMP to a residence on the 1400 block of Fifth Avenue on Jan. 13.

After searching the place, the police discovered a stockpile of weapons – including a loaded shotgun – and other sundries suspected to be stolen.

The latter included a pellet handgun and pellet rifle, a taser, ammunition, knives, an air compressor, personal documents, and back packs, all believed to have been lifted from local vehicles and businesses.

The Trail RCMP Detachment continues to ask the public to lock their vehicles and homes to prevent these types of thefts.
