A traffic stoppage by the RCMP’s West Kootenay Traffic Services along Highway 3 on Sept. 2 led to a suspected drug seizure.
A number of Grand Forks International baseball tournament spectators reported seeing RCMP pull over a white truck near James Donaldson Park in Grand Forks.
A 54-year-old male from Alberta was detained and according to witnesses, police took possession of some bags.
West Kootenay Traffic Services’ Sgt. Derrick Donovan said the incident took place before 4 p.m. at Central Avenue and 19th Street.
“It was a traffic stop initially and the vehicle was a white GMC pickup truck that was stopped with a small camper on it,” Donovan explained.
He said that as a result of the traffic stop, the officer detained the driver under suspicion of impaired driving and a bag was seized with a small amount of what was thought to be marijuana.
No charges have been laid relating to the drugs according to Donovan.
“There (have been) no charges relating to the drugs but the person also instructed the police investigation, so there are charges being recommended and the person was released on a promise to appear,” he said.
