Local social media lit up Monday morning with questions about a police incident in the early hours on Dyke Road in Chilliwack.
A large police presence was reported on the road on the Skwah reserve between 3 a.m. and 4 a.m. One Facebook user said he witnessed six RCMP SUVs along with more police cruisers, spotlights on an RV storage lot and on the road.

Chilliwack RCMP spokesperson Cpl. Mike Rail said a vehicle in the area failed to pull over for a traffic stop when an officer turned on lights and siren. The driver allegedly fleeing police then crashed into a concrete abutment on the west side of the road.
Three people were in the vehicle and were taken to Chilliwack General Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.
By daylight there was still a police presence with Dyke Road blocked from the south just north of the entrance to the go-kart track, and from the north just above a residential driveway. There was a seriously damaged four-door sedan near the road with officers investigating.

By afternoon, the road was cleared with police tape and black marks on the piece of concrete at the end of the driveway.
Cpl. Rail said the matter is under investigation so it’s too early to talk about possible charges.
There was some delay releasing information out about the crash as the RCMP were waiting to hear if the province’s police watchdog, the Independent Investigations Office of BC (IIO-BC), would investigate. The IIO-BC is not involved.
